The Brewer group works on biomass utilization, which means that we make stuff (fuels, food products, adsorbents, bio-derived chemicals, etc.) out of plants. We study physical, chemical, thermal and biological conversion methods, especially for agricultural and forestry wastes. We collaborate across campus for projects on biofuels, wastewater treatment, alternative crops, soil quality, phytoremediation, environmental remediation, engineering education, and brewing.
